Sanford Fisher (1927-1995) of the Gordon Indian Reserve near Punnichy, Saskatchewan, was a self-taught portrait and landscape painter. His work is marked by a distinctive use of colour and a sureness of technique which has earned him a place among the most distinguished Cree painters of his generation.
